Dr. Scott Athans, Dr. Michele Keel, and Dr. Keith Poindexter are experienced optometrists providing comprehensive eye examinations for patients of all ages. We specialize in the treatment and management of eye diseases and injuries including cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic eye disease.

At Spectrum Eye Center, we proudly combine cutting-edge technology with compassionate care to deliver the highest standard of optometry services for your entire family. From comprehensive eye exams and custom contact lens fittings to advanced diagnostics and treatment for ocular diseases, our experienced team is dedicated to keeping your eyes healthy and your vision clear. We also offer vision rehabilitation services to our patients. Our commitment is simple: to provide every patient with exceptional, personalized care in a warm and welcoming environment.

Dr. Scott Athans specializes in family optometry, as well as, contact lenses and eye disease. Dr. Athans is a native of Moore County. He graduated with honors from Pennsylvania College of Optometry in May 1993. Dr. Athans lectures on Ocular Urgencies and Emergencies, Maintaining Good Vision as You Grow Older, and Childhood Eye Diseases. Dr. Athans is a member of the American Optometric Association, the North Carolina Optometric Society, and the Eastern District Optometric Society. He is also a member of the Gold Key international Optometric Honor Society and received citations for Clinical Excellence in Primary Care and Pediatrics. Dr. Athans and his wife, Patricia, have four children and live in Whispering Pines.

Dr. Keel specializes in family optometry, as well as, contact lenses and eye disease. She is originally from Fayetteville and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and graduated with a BA degree in chemistry. She received her OD degree at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. She is a member of the North Carolina Optometric Society, the American Optometric Association and the Sandhills District Optometric Society. She is a community volunteer, and active in her church. Knitting, yoga, being with family and walking her dogs are among her favorite ways to relax. She is dedicated to being a thorough professional and primary care specialist. She and her husband, Koley, live in Pinehurst and have a daughter.

Dr. Poindexter specializes in ocular disease management, pediatric and family eyecare, and myopia management. Dr. Poindexter has served Moore County and the surrounding area for more than 20 years as an optometrist, prior to joining Spectrum Eye Center in February 2022. He is a native of Moore County and grew up in Carthage, NC. Dr. Poindexter received his undergraduate degree from NC State University and his doctorate from the University of Alabama School of Optometry. His past and present professional society memberships and honors include the American Optometric Association, NC Optometric Society, Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, and Beta Sigma Kappa International Optometric Honor Society. He served as an examiner for the Pediatric Eye Disease Investigator Group and is a Certified Professional Coder. Since graduating optometry school, Dr. Poindexter has pursued many additional business educational opportunities from the University of Michigan, University of Pennsylvania, and Northwestern University. He is a Lions Club member and he served as president of the Carthage club for many years. Dr. Poindexter and his wife, Julie, have three children and live in Carthage.

Originally founded by Dr. Kenny Bumgarner, our practice is established as the premier primary eyecare clinic providing the full spectrum of eyecare services from eye exams to treating and managing eye disease and injury, as well as full optical services including eyewear, sunwear, and contact lenses.
